Portrait of a Lady on Fire

A slow-burning and exquisitely shot two hours that details the relationship that builds between a painter, Marianne (Noémie Merlant) and her subject Héloïse (Adèle Haenel), a reluctant soon-to-be bride who refuses to sit for her portrait. Marianne is commissioned by Héloïse’s mother who gives her an encumbered task: to paint her daughter in secret.

Winner of the Queer Palm and Best Screenplay at Cannes, PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE is full of intimacy, longing, and two luminescent performances from its stars. The result is an immersive portrait in itself, and one that will burn on long after the credits.
