One week out from shooting his upcoming film, world famous actor Jay Kelly (Clooney), decides to shift gears and visit his family in Europe as he begins to reassess his career. Without a warning, he embarks on the trip, first stopping in Italy to accept a lifetime achievement award. Forced to join him on this trip is his devoted manager Ron (Sandler), publicist Liz (Dern), and stylist (co-writer Emily Mortimer). As the trip becomes increasingly reflective, and Jay’s desire to give up acting continues to grow, all the personal and professional choices he’s made throughout his life come to haunt him.
