THE BOY AND THE HERON: Academy Award winning director Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke) returned to film with his first feature in ten years, which netted him his second Oscar win. Young Mahito yearns for his late mother after being moved to the countryside by his widowed father. Tempted by an unusual grey heron to explore the surroundings of his new home, he soon discovers a world shared by both the living and the dead.
THE WIND RISES: Portraying a fictionalised account of the life Japanese aeronautical engineer Jiro Horikoshi, Miyazaki's gorgeous period-set animation is a slice of like look at an innovative and accomplished airplane designer. Nearsighted from a young age and unable to be a pilot, Jiro joins a major Japanese engineering company in 1927, and during his time there designs a great many aircrafts, which ultimately get used the Japanese Empire in WWII.
