Amazing Grace
Aretha Franklin may have ascended, but the Queen of Soul is far from forgotten – and new music documentary AMAZING GRACE reminds us of this while capturing an iconic moment in her life. Following her in 1972 as she recorded one of her greatest albums, the eponymous Amazing Grace, the then 29-year-old combined her prodigious talents with the Southern California Community Gospel Choir to create what would become the most successful gospel album of all time.
The Sydney Pollack directed film was long-shelved, but is now finally seeing a release in the wake of Franklin’s death. Replete with never-before-seen footage and candid glimpses of a true musical genius, AMAZING GRACE is an ode to Aretha as well as the vital gospel music movement within ‘60s and ‘70s America.
