Solaris and Persona

DOUBLE FEATURE! A science fiction epic, and a psychological drama from two of Europe’s greatest arthouse filmmakers, Andrei Tarkovsky’s SOLARIS and Ingmar Bergman’s PERSONA.

Based on the novel by the same name, SOLARIS centres around a rundown space station orbiting the fictional planet Solaris, where psychologist Kris Kelvin has been sent to uncover what has caused the small crew on board to descend into despair. Nominated for the Palme d’or, and winner of the Grand Prize at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival, SOLARIS is a deep meditation on the human condition and one of the greatest science fiction films of the 20th century.

In PERSONA, Alma, a young nurse charged with caring for a seemingly healthy, albeit mute actress Elisabeth, finds that the more time she spends with the woman, and more she confesses her secrets to her, the more her personality begins to reflect the persona Elisabeth has been displaying. A cinematic masterpiece from Swedish auteur Ingmar Bergman, PERSONA challenges the audience to decify the duality of human nature, and the truth behind what is presented in front of you.
