Beat Street

40th ANNIVERSARY! Hailing from the rough slums of the Bronx, a young hip-hop artist aspires to make it big as a disc jockey while his brother is a breakdancer who seeks to rule the street. BEAT STREET is a 1984 dance drama showcasing New York City's early hip hop culture including breakdancing, street art and DJing.

Produced by Harry Belafonte and starring Rae Dawn Chong, BEAT STREET is influenced by 1983 documentary Wild Style and turns the music and craft up to eleven while capturing New York at an essential moment in the city's street culture.
