Mistress America
Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig team up again for the first time since Frances Ha in MISTRESS AMERICA, the story about a college freshman and wannabe writer who gains a mentor and muse in her soon-to-be stepsister.
Tracy (Lola Kirke) is feeling adrift in her first year of college. Awkward, unpopular, and just refused membership to her campus’ literary society, she doesn’t feel like she’s living up to her potential either as a student or as a new resident in New York. Her life abruptly changes course when she is taken under the wing of Brooke (Gerwig), her future stepsister, who lives in Times Square and is living, as Tracy believes, “like a young woman should live, who wants to spend her youth well.” Soon Tracy is embroiled in a wild adventure as Brooke’s day-to-day mad schemes spiral hilariously out of control. A female buddy comedy that harks back to the classic screwballs of Howard Hawks, MISTRESS AMERICA proves Gerwig is one of the foremost comediennes of modern cinema.
