Scientist Dr Baxter (Willem Dafoe) introduces Max (Ramy Youssef) to his unusual daughter Bella Baxter (Emma Stone); a grown woman with the intellect of a child. Falling under her spell while documenting her development, Max is romantically gazumped by scoundrel Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo) who takes Bella on a journey of discovery. Exposed to wonders never before experienced, Bella embarks on her own personal odyssey.
