Journey Home, David Gulpilil

David Gulpili (Walkabout, Storm Boy, The Last Wave, Rabbit-Proof Fence, Crocodile Dundee, The Proposition, Charlie’s Country) was one of Australia’s greatest and most well-known actors, and the first Indigenous actor to make an international stamp. A Yolŋu man, Gulpili led a traditional lifestyle in the Arafura Swamp before beginning his career as an actor, forcing him to navigate the two worlds that eventually both became his home. Before he passed in 2021, his family promised to lay his body to rest at his birthplace of Gulpulul, and guide his spirit back to a sacred waterhole known as Marawuyu, a journey that would soon prove to be anything but straightforward.

A thoughtfully observed story of heritage and identity, JOURNEY HOME, DAVID GULPILI is a moving tribute to a legend of Australian cinema.
