Lygon Street: Si Parla Italiano

CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF NOVA! Re-visit the longest running documentary at Nova! If you’ve ever eaten Italian food in Melbourne, you’ve probably been to Lygon Street - home to “Little Italy” (and Cinema Nova itself!). After the Second World War, Australia opened its doors to European migration, and so, Melbourne welcomed a new wave of Italians who soon found their home - and initiated a cultural revolution! Espresso, pizza, pasta and wine...the fabric of the culture they brought to Melbourne was thick with indulgence and love, and Lygon Street found itself at the epicentre.
LYGON STREET - SI PARLA ITALIANO, directed by Shannon Swan and Angelo Pricolo, sketches a portrait of this vibrant community with its Lygon Street heartland still pumping today - a heartland that changed the way a country ate.
