IFF Caracas
Directed by and starring Marco D’Amore (Gomorrah) alongside Toni Servillo (The Great Beauty) CARACAS is a nocturnal drama and enthralling portrait of Naples.
Giordano Fonte (Servillo) is a well-known Neapolitan writer who returns to his hometown after a long absence. He roams through Naples, a city that he no longer recognises and one that simultaneously terrifies and fascinates. But he is not alone, accompanied by old friend Caracas (D’Amore). Caracas is torn between ideology and desire, as he seeks the answers to life’s questions. During their interactions in the shadows of the Neapolitan streets, Caracas’ story of impossible love for Yasmina is shared, as they move through the underbelly of the city, where everyone dreams of seeing a day full of light after the darkness of the night.
Based on Ermanno Rea’s novel Napoli Ferrovia, CARACAS blends dreams with reality in a depiction of the multi-faceted city and the two men’s search for peace, redemption and forgiveness.
“An indefinable film, set in a version of Naples verging on Gotham City.” - Cineuropa
