Spielberg’s richly detailed drama is inspired by the director’s own childhood. Aspiring teenage filmmaker Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle) is urged to pursue his dreams by his beloved mother Mitzi (Michelle Williams), despite the scepticism of his computer scientist father Burt (Paul Dano). Using his filmmaking to establish stability as the family is continually displaced by his father’s career, Sammy’s visits to the cinema and the encouragement of his friends help craft a master storyteller.
