Black Phone, The

From director Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, Doctor Strange) and novelist Joe Hill (the son of novelist Stephen King) comes a critically acclaimed supernatural thriller set before the threat of the ‘serial killer’ crept into the global consciousness.
Finney Shaw (Mason Thames), a shy but clever 13-year-old, is kidnapped by a sadist (Ethan Hawke) and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming for help is of little use. With few clues as to his whereabouts and the local police already searching for other missing children, his younger sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw) believes she may be the key to Finney returning home. When a disconnected telephone on the wall of Finney’s cell begins to ring, Finney discovers he can hear the voices of his abductor’s previous victims. Listening to their stories from what might be ‘the other side’, he begins to plan his escape.
Playing upon audience anxieties by setting their film in a time of latch-key kids and analogue technology, Derrickson expertly builds tension throughout the supremely entertaining THE BLACK PHONE. You have been warned…
